Balanced Choice Workplace
Since 2014, Balanced Choice has refined programs that disarm the protective behaviours people use to prevent personal connection and uncomfortable conversations. The company works day-in and day-out with those that keep the world at a distance for their emotional survival. People who have often lost confidence in kindness and have learned to connect hope to disappointment.
The processes that break through these beliefs work as effectively in a high-pressure leadership team or staffroom as they do in a prison. Balanced Choice evolved in organisations known for underlying conflict, and we specialise in breaking barriers to bring people together to explore pathways for positive change.

Keynote Speakers
“Adam Drake gives us time to reflect on work and ourselves in a fun but constructive manner. Each workshop he gives us skills in leadership and we always take away a little bit of strength."
Ethan Wood-Alum - Menzies School of Health Research
In our experience, the behaviours people use to engage the world around them frequently mask concerns about how they are perceived or understood by others. The less we know about and trust in those around us, the more our behaviours are used to keep a distance between us.
Maintaining effective teamwork and a culture of positivity requires an investment of time. Time to put aside the pressures and concerns of life and allow ourselves to be present. Time to listen to our colleagues and better understand them. Time to discuss our goals and challenges and agree how best to address them together.
Balanced Choice specialises in using your time effectively to build connection and communication. Whether it’s a school staffroom, a youth advisory committee, prison guards or an executive team, a Balanced Choice engagement specialist will disarm tensions in a room and find common ground.
We do this by applying the principles of Learned Optimism through the lens of PERMA – Positive emotion, Engagement, Relationship, Meaning and Achievement.
While Balanced Choice can tailor a program to meet your specific needs, for most clients new to our company we recommend a half-day workshop with your team. It will cover:
Building connection and safe participation
Assess current team dynamics - silos and networks
Examine workplace values and shared goals within the context of current activities
Articulate opportunities for, and a commitment to, collective positive change
Team Building
“The biggest communication problem is that we do not listen to understand, we listen to reply.”
Stephen R. Covey
Whether you are leading a company, a classroom, sporting team, steering committee or setting out on your own path, your capacity to inspire and motivate others will be tested. There may be times when the pressure of being the person in charge, carrying the weight of decision making, will challenge your ability to adhere to the values that keep you grounded.
Balanced Choice leadership programs bring our stories and experience working in complex and emotionally-charged environments and relate them to the challenges specific to you and your team. Our approach is deeply personal. We work to identify the specific leadership qualities that are required for each workplace and individual. Balanced Choice realigns people to their personal values, then builds confidence to use those values to make more informed decisions.
We can work with you to tailor a leadership workshop to meet specific needs, or for new clients we recommend the three-hour induction program. The induction workshop will cover:
Defining leadership
Examining which values underpin good leadership
Reflecting on inspirational leaders influencing people in the room
Identifying opportunities for personal growth
